To me, Atlanta has some of the best food around, especially in consistency of what you can find in the city. Being an international business hub, there are some amazing, talented chefs out there, where if you wanted to, you wouldn't even have to go further than the airport! Since I'm here for the week, and I always make a point to eat out at as many places as I can, I wanted to expose the food beauties of this city that I'm eating at during the week.
First stop was Flip Burger. We've eaten at this place a few years back and it was just as good as I remember. Some things have changed with the menu - some things removed (such as their amazing pineapple upside cake milkshake, with actual pieces of cake at the bottom (why get rid of such a delicious shake?!!)) and different options available. Their whole theme is 'flipped', which shows in their restaurant with tables and seats on the ceilings and their sometimes different and whacky food concoctions.
I had to try a shake, which are called 'Nitro Shakes', made with liquid nitrogen. I went with a simple vanilla and it was great - a perfect accompaniment to an American burger. I went with the Southern burger, which has a chicken fried beef patty, coco-cola ketchup (a nod to Atlanta), pimento cheese and B&B pickles. My boyfriend went for the RBQ burger - beef patty, pulled brisket, rbq sauce, smoked mayo and coleslaw. We both had the flip fries - fried in beef fat and served with ketchup and smoked mayo.
Both burgers were delicious. The RBQ, surprisingly, didn't have an overkill of bbq flavour, and you could instead taste each aspect of the burger.
The Southern beef patties had an incredible crispy sear all over, and again, the flavours of each ingredient worked so well together. The buns they use are beautifully buttery and soft, brioche style - working perfectly with the rest.
The fries were beautifully crispy due to the fat they had been fried in, and were perfectly seasoned. I have to say, it was a struggle to get through, especially with the milkshake on top but hey, to taste everything that's around, you have to let your stomach expand a bit. It's got to be done to enjoy yourself - especially when on holiday!

We topped off the afternoon with one of our favourite gelato places; Amorino, in Lenox Mall. This is a recent pop-up in the mall - probably in the last year or two. You only pay for the cone or tub size (plus or minus any whipped cream or macaroon), and you can have as many, or all, of the flavours they have available. This includes gelato or sorbet flavours and one of the more attracting aspects of it is their presentation. If you get a cone, however many flavours you get, instead of piling scoop on top of scoop, they arrange the flavours into petals, to make a flower. The flavours you can find include almond, passions fruit, pistachio, tiramisu, coconut, Sicilian citrus and so on. It's a fun and unique presentation of a delicious afternoon treat.
