Atlanta Feasts: Atlanta Breakfast Club

For the many years that I've been to the South, I had never tried chicken and waffles. I know, it's absolutely shocking. Well, I rectified that a few months ago and I now know that THIS is what's been missing in my life (clearly not in reality but let's go with it for dramatic affect).

I realise it's a dish that if not done right, can fall pretty flat. You need excellent fried, seasoned chicken and fluffy, lightly sweetened waffles with some good syrup on the side. I was very lucky to taste my first experience at Atlanta Breakfast Club and now this is the one to beat.

Atlanta Breakfast Club is extremely popular. It would be hard to miss if there wasn't always a line going out the door.

It's also in a great spot; right in the centre of tourist town, directly opposite the aquarium, where you get plenty of regulars and lots of new faces. It's run off its feet usually, but the servers and service is great - they learn your faces (we went A LOT) and give you the same, welcoming treatment as any one else.

They specialise in Southern breakfast but also serve burgers and the like. They are however, known around town for their chicken and waffles, and I can confirm, after many visits ordering the same thing (the second after I tasted them from my boyfriend's plate), their quality did not waiver.

In my opinion, the fried chicken is what makes this dish. It's perfectly seasoned in their balance of spices, not too salty and not oily/fatty tasting. It then pairs so well with the fluffy waffles and maple syrup.

As with most dishes in the South, you won't leave here feeling hungry after having the chicken and waffles or most other things on that menu. You can then pop over and sluggishly walk around the aquarium or Coco-Cola World - it's a win-win.

Check out the delicious menu at Atlanta Breakfast Club and stop by when you're next in Atlanta (if you don't already live there... in the restaurant, I mean - I would).
